Well, it seems as though we’ve gone public. Hello to all the new readers. I hope you all enjoyed my previous two segments. I sort of ended the previous post on a sub-par cliffhanger, so I don’t want to keep you guys waiting any longer! Let’s get started.
As mentioned in the previous post, part of my definition of productivity is engaging in activities that empower you. Examples could be waking up early every morning, reading a book, or perhaps, exercising. All these activities empower a human being. It gives a person control of their life, a feeling of confidence.
Empowerment is fascinating due to its recursive nature. The more empowering actions you take, the more empowered you feel, thus, finally the more empowered you can become. The cycle exponentially repeats and eventually, you reach what I call, the latter half of my definition of productivity.
Productivity is habitually investing time into empowering activities to be able to, one day, empower others and give them the ability to do so themselves.
To better explain, I’d like to use the analogy of planting a seed to grow a fruit tree. Consider each one of us persons a seed from which fruit grows. Of course, we’ve all heard some version of the analogy comparing the nourishment of the seed to the productive use of our time. It goes something like this: we must “water ourselves” and make good use of our time to one day see the fruit. That’s all fine and dandy, but I’d like to take that analogy one step further.
I think a lot of people miss a key point in that analogy. When you plant a seed, water it, and take good care of it, of course, you get a fruit tree. The most important takeaway: the fact that a single seed does not yield a single fruit. It yields hundreds. When you empower yourself and one day transform into that fruit, do not forget to spread that empowerment. Do not forget that from your one seed, hundreds of fruits could be born. Last, but most definitely not least, one must treat empowerment like an oxygen mask on an airplane. You must first empower yourself before you attempt to empower others. Therefore, while it may seem selfish at first, I give importance to myself first. I must have the knowledge, the skill, the empowerment. Only then, will I be most prepared and well-equipped to optimally serve others.
Often, I ask people why they’re doing what they’re doing. Whether it’s studying towards a degree, working towards a promotion, or writing a blog (hey, that’s what I’m doing!), I often get similar answers. Answers like, “oh, so I’m financially stable in the future” or “so I can start a family”. Now, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with those answers, but I do feel like they are extremely narrow. There’s more to life than that. Let’s grow and explore endless possibilities together. Let’s aspire together.
That’s all I have for this segment. I feel like this post should really connect all the remaining dots on why I’ve started writing this blog. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading these posts just as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them.
Thank you very much for tuning in. Before I go, I just wanted to quickly mention that I’ve had a ton of folks reach out to me via Instagram (@pjkingh) regarding my posts. I am a strong believer in thought-provoking conversations so feel free to reach out to me if you’d like to discuss further.
Thank you all again. Until next time folks!
